Our first speaker was Mr Mohamed Eissa Alrefaei from the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry.  Mohamed highlighted the suite of services available from the Chamber including consultancy services, networking events, connections and competitor analysis.

Our second speaker was Souad Mohamed Al Hosani from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) who explained about the help for investors to expend into Abu Dhabi, along with information about the five freezones.  She also covered the investment in the Abu Dhabi innovation ecosystem and explained about the importance of the in country value programme.

Up next was Farrell Sheridan from the Abu Dhabi Global Market who emphasised how companies could enter the region with confidence along with information on the support offered to start-ups and the push towards sustainable finance.

Katy Thomson from Clyde & Co. spoke about the various legal jurisdictions and the importance of taking legal advice before setting up a business in the UAE and financial modelling.

Nathan Hunt from the Gateway Group of Companies asked delegates to take advice on how to choose a local partner and which questions need to be asked before considering the UAE as a new market.  He also stressed the significance of thinking of an exit strategy.

Next was Andy Monaghan who gave an update on the energy sector in the country and changes being made within SDI.  He emphasised that there would be a number of opportunities in renewable energy which would extend throughout the Middle East, particularly around education and training.

Our last speaker was Sarah Taylor from DIT who covered the Dubai Expo 2020 and the relationship between Scotland and the UAE, particularly around export markets and investment and the update of interest in the food & drink and technology sectors.

We look forward hopefully welcoming a live delegation from Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce to Abu Dhabi at the end of this year!
